Well, there you go. 1-2 hours' walking in Franken will get you around quite a bit. Especially if you do it a couple or a few times a day. That stretch is out in the open, but I've never thought of it as desolate. I personally really like it. And sometimes you find something interesting to see. This was some sort of holdover from pagan/heathen times, I think. Or just coincidence. < http://i45.tinypic.com/2qdrkg5.jpg > *** Not for the squeamish *** nicht für zarte Gemüter ***, a close-up of what's at the foot of that cross, located on the way from Stiebarlimbach to Schnaid: < http://i46.tinypic.com/333kah2.jpg > What do we call those crosses in English, anyway? Or German, for that matter? Fränkisch? At any rate, at the top of the hill/plateau above Sassanfahrt, you can see what a new construction subdivision looks like in Franken, a sort of Hirschaider mini urban sprawl. It gives you an idea of what your real estate investment can get you here. A fair mix of architectural styles there. Ah, yes, Juliushof: < https://maps.google.de/maps?q=Juliushof,+Hirschaid&z=17 > (Surprised no proud new homeowners have uploaded photos to googlemaps or googleearth. Then again, I haven't done that for our new neighbourhood either.) |
