| "Many texts later, Becki's sharp eyes noticed a little clause tucked away in the DB schedule saying that the service was cancelled due to roadworks." Turns out it isn't really THAT deeply buried. If you enter in the data for yesterday's journey (9 Sept 11.00 Hirschaid - Geisfeld), you'll see that a note comes up "Linie 977: Einschränkungen wegen Bauarbeiten". Restrictions due to roadworks. If you then hover on that text, you'll get a pop-up message explaining where the construction is and...wait for it... how the 11.25 service is canceled. As I was looking at that yesterday morning, I was using my smartphone and simply didn't see the pop-up text. B found it when she used the real computer. Why the VGN wouldn't simply say "SERVICE CANCELED"(in German of course) for that 11.25 connection is beyond me. They can program in a bleedin' pop-up like that, but not simply alter the first info that comes up? We were also nearly shafted by a VGN webbie cockup last weekend, as the VGN said that an S-Bahn ran at one time, but then the DB said another. And the latter was correct. This one had to do with the construction going on down between Fürth & Erlangen. It was a splendid day, and we luckily got to Buttenheim just as the gate was closing for your train to arrive. And, lo and behold, the Löwenbräu Kellerbier, while not being the same *hoppy* treat it was before about 2008, was substantially better yesterday than it had been since about 2008. No browned-in-butter apple notes. Clean, dry, and bitter. Puts Buttenheim back on our map. |
