Galicia - for Jurgen |

Hi Mike, the trip was gorgeous, as always. It was quite hard to find the small breweries - all of them haven't been working at the time and nobody was there. The only cerveza artesanal I got in Vigo was Menduina - and it was awful. So beerwise I've got only three recommendations: Estrella Galicia Lager, Estrella Galicia Pilsener and Estrella Galicia 1906. They're quite nice. Otherwise try to find small bars in old town centers who sell native Albarino wine, that's what I would go for. If you're lucky, you'll get a bottle from a small wine farmer with a lot of yeast inside, cloudy and very good! Bar recommendations: No. Stay away from modern bars and look out for the old ones, mostly run by old couples - they really know how to do it. And order Pimientos de Padron, of course. ;-) Place recommendations - don't miss: Piornedo, a wonderful celtic Paloza village high up in the Ancares mountains, Lugo province. O Cebreiro, Lugo province, a similar but a little bit more touristical pilgrims village, also consisting of Palozas (celtic round houses). Viladonga castro museum, Lugo province. Fascinating and beautiful! Cheers Jürgen |
