OTOH, a negative effect of German banking conservatism is that it's virtually impossible for us to refinance our house to take advantage of lower interest rates compared to when we bought it 4 years ago. Negative for us personally, but then buying and selling mortgages in the US (what we did with our Oregon house 2 or 3 times) is part of the big problem.
