Where do I find these German beers?

If you find these strong Bocks at all in Germany, it will be in and around Munich during the so-called "5th season" or "Starkbierzeit." The locals prefer session- strength beer, so a lot of it is exported. Spaten is a piece of the world's largest brewing company, Anheuser Busch InBev, as are Franziskaner, Löwenbräu, Diebels, Beck's, and Hasseröder. As the German market is no longer a good source of growth, these brands will become increasingly export oriented, and the parent corporation is moving to take over control of these products. Currently, Spaten is brought into the USA by an independent importing company. That ends this year. What this will do for specialties like Optimator is anybody's guess.
