Rauchbier recommendations.

"Stöffla", Drei Kronen, Memmelsdorf, Gold medal of the Euroepan Beer Star Award 2003 (in the first year of this beer cup, with few participators and only awards in 3 categories. This beer is only available in the brewpub. Only a small part of smoke malt. http://www.drei-kronen.de/ The brewpub has very good food, higher prices (in the view of locals) Gänstaller-Bräu Golden Smoked Zoigl Gänstaller-Bräu F.X.G Dark Smoked Märzen Gänstaller Affumicator is a Doppelbock (9.X % alc.), brewed for a sportsbar in Rome. Smoke malt form the brewery/malthouse Steinbach in Erlangen. Available only in some pubs in Europe and in the Zoiglstube, Strassgiech of Manuela Gänstaller, the wife of Andreas Gänstaller I don't know if both beers will be available actual. http://www.zoiglstube.net/ Hartmann Felsentrunk from the brewery Hartmann in Würgau (20 kms in the northwest of Bamberg with only 15% smoke malt ("ein Hauch von Rauch). http://www.brauerei-hartmann.de/ This beer is available in some pubs (p.e. Café Abseits) and in many shops. The brewpub has higher prices (in the view of locals). More a restaurant than a pub. Weyermann Schlotfegerla from the Braumanufaktur Weyermann, a lab brewery of the malthouse weyermann. Weyermann is the third place (with Schlenkerla and Spezial), producing smoke malt. You can find the typical taste of this smoke malt in many smoke beers around the world. Available in the fan shop of Weyermann and (in bottle) in the Café Abseits. Weiherer Rauchbier from the brewery Kundmüller in Bamberg (around 10 kms in the southwest of Bamberg). http://www.kundmueller.de/ Some medals of the Euroepear Beer Award. Available p.e. in the "Bootshaus", Bamberg, a very nice beer garden in a great forest area near the old city, nice place near the river Regnitz. They have all Weiherer beers. The brewpub in Weiher is also a nice place / Biergarten, good local food, cheap. Hausbräu Stegaurach Rauchbier http://www.hausbraeu-stegaurach.de/bierangebot.php The brewer has a fulltime job at the brewery Göller, which is a contract brewery for many regional breweries. They have alsa a "Göller Rauchbier". I don't knew if You will taste a different aroma. Göller Rauchbier from the brewery Göller in Zeil. http://www.brauerei-goeller.de/ I don't know where You can find this beer in Bamberg. Fischer Rauchbier from the brewery Fischer in Greuth, 15 kms in the south of Bamberg. http://www.franconiabeerguide.com/CityDetail.asp?City=Greuth My personal recommendation Available at Café Abseits. The Fischer brewery has a large beer garden between Greuth and Zentbechhofen. Smoke beers, saisonal or temporary: - Krug Rauchbier, Krug, Geisfeld. The brewpub with limited opening times has also a nice, regular Lager and sometimes special bers (stout, belgian style, Helles and so on). Great local food.
