Joelle - every brewer that I have asked (which is most both towns) uses Hallertauer hops. Don't know about the IBU rating but most of the beers are not what you might call 'hoppy' in character. Even Schlosshof is only mildly hopped but you can sniff an aroma in the glass, which is a bit unusual. I haven't met a brewer who puts in extra hops during the lagering phase. Pieter Weiss said to me that zoigl tastes hoppier when it is young and get less hoppy when it gets older. But, as all the stub'n seem to lager for about 2 months, not sure about the relevance of this. Thanks Nick - this may be the zenith of her walking activities! Which of the zoigl stub'n in Falkenberg was it? We've been in Kramer (last year) and Schwoazhansel (plus Rote Ochse), which leaves only Wolf Fadl, which was open last weekend and is next open June 8, when we may be in the Erzegebirge. Both of the former were very pils oriented and quite like Neuhaus stub'n zoigl. |
