| I finally found a Tim Taylor Golden Best pale mild on this trip and was a bit let down. A bit too sweet. My favourite pale mild remains the Acorn Lightness which I found in Sheff in April. Crisp yet malty: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/acorn-lightness/123756/ . I've had one or two others but can't recall them now. I like the style, but a roasty, dark, low-alcohol mild is even better. The Castle Hotel in Manc does pour the Old Tom, though from a regular cask, not a barrel on the bar, at least the three or four times I've been in. And they don't sell pints, but then people just buy two halves and drink them simultaneously, apparently. http://www.frederic-robinson.co.uk/pubs/pub/get.do?pubId=647 A great old, tastefully restored, CAMRA-listed pub that you should pop round to. Last time, the young staff were apparently part of the trend of re-enacting the glory days of the British Empire, dressing like it was 1942 all over again. I'll be curious to hear what you make of any of the new pale, hoppy, low-alcohol blond ales you might run into in Manc. I suppose we should fix a date for Monday the 5th in Stiebarlimbach, if the weather plays along. Hopefully Jürgen and Danny have the day off, if not also Gerhard. |
