Barry, Rather than buggering about with the strip things it might be better to get a VGN ticket for the entire network. Its €14.90 I think and gives 2 adults unlimited travel on the network for one day or the whole weekend. Eggolsheim, Buttenheim and Hirschaid are all worthwhile and easily accessible by train. Last year we went up on the line from Nuremberg Nord Ost to Weissenohe and Grafenberg, very pleasant indeed. You can also take the branch line from Forchheim up to Pretzeldorf and go to the brewery tap there. And Ebermannstadt. There have been links posted before aboput the new buses on weekends which seem to be designed for rambling beer drinkers, Im sure these are worthwhile.
