Annafest Report

Yesterday, despite the rain, I went to Annafest yet again. I went with Matthew Jessop and his wife, both from Australia, whom I had met the evening before. When we arrived at Forchheim Bahnhof, we got a taxi (fixed price of 6 Euros to Annafest), and here was something interesting. He asked if we wanted to go to main area at the bottom, but I aksed if we could go to the top (no English). I mentioned Blumleins Keller and Rosenau Str., but he said it was Einbahnstrasse (One way street), which I knew. So, I thought he would just take us to the bottom. But no, he took us most of the way up, and dropped us off about 80 meters from Schwanen Keller. So, almost to the very top! Very convenient. We stopped at Weiss-Tauben Keller first and had a Rittmayer Bier. Luckily the crowds were thin (about 15:00) so we got a table under a roof. Next we moved to Eichhorn Keller, which was much more busy, but again we got a table. I was surprised to see a waitress her whom I had seen for the previous 7 years working at Mahrs Braeu in Bamberg. She recognized me, and we spoke a bit, but she speaks very little English. She no longer works at Mahrs (which I had surmised since I had not seen her there in the last two weeks). She said she is working at this Keller in the Summer. Not sure where else she is working. She was the waitress with black hair and small, square glasses. However, now her hair was dyed red. Small world. After Eichhorn we walkd down the hill. Matt's wife had a bowl of Fish Soup at a Raucherei, and Matt and I had absolutely delicious Pork Steak sandwiches a little bit further down the hill (near the "curve"). Our next stop was Schindler Keller where we drank Greif. Finally, we braved the thick crowds and move up to Winterbauer Keller, and again, amazingly, got a great table. Here we drank St. Georgenbraeu, which was quite delicious. We stayed til closing, walked down the hill, got on a bus to the Bahnhof, and then caught the 00:26 train to Bamberg. The train was delayed a couple of times on the way, so we got back to Bamberg around 01:10. Overall, a very fun day at Annafest, despite the rain (which stopped around 18:00, I think) and the chill. Cheers
