The use of "I" (pronounced somewhat like the English "ee" in "keep", but less drawn-out) for the first-person singular nominative pronoun is pretty common in southern-German and Austrian dialects. And in the west, I've heard the Dutch-style "nee" also used for the negative reply. It's pretty easily to get lost in the swirl of regional Germanic dialects and accents. Hope your experience in (and walk to)Falkenberg is a good one! ObOT (AndMoreNonFranconianBeer): There's a tiny village in Thuringia called Singen, part of the Ilmtal community, about an hour and a half by car north of Bamberg. An attraction there is Brauerei Schmitt and the affiliated Gasthaus nearby. Br. Schmitt has an interesting history; it was one of the few enterprises allowed to remain in private hands during the DDR years, and it's still in operation as a sort of "living history" museum-brewery. Anyone been? Thinking of it as a possible weekend excursion. |
