| A personal battle with E coli is certainly something that gives you a different perspective than the rest of us here. Cheers for sharing that...and for having beaten it! And as it turns out they have indeed found some of the EHEC in question in sprouts from that particular greenhouse. And the all clear's been given for everything else. I read in the paper that although the 26 (?) deaths in the last month is a dramatic outbreak, that as many as 30 people die every day (!) from hygiene-related infections acquired in German hospitals. This was in an article that said that the previous figure of up to 15 people per day is outdated, based on data from the 1990's. Well, 15 a day is shocking enough, especially given the good reputation that German medicine --let alone cleanliness-- appears to enjoy around the world. |
