| They will only be able to trace the source if (1) the outbreak continues and (2) the source remains contaminated. If nobody else gets sick, it might go down in history as a huge mystery. The story I heard said that these cases are often complicated because the source was only intermittently contaminated and because the source item can often randomly contaminate another food (e.g., a vegetable) if they come into contact. Also, family members can sometimes infect one another if the sick person has diarrhea. |
