OT: Amberg and its environs

Mike: train-only, or will you also have a car? A car allows for a wider variety of overnight stopovers, obviously. Still, there are other possible destinations, like Weiden i.d. Oberpfalz, that offer a nice town with a couple of places to try a beer you might not have had before.
