It's about 1.5 to 2 hours on train from Amberg to Eschawo. Is it worth it on a Wednesday? Questionable, because the zoiglstube are closed, except Loistl (my choice in recent BBB poll as best pub in the world), which only opens at 17.00, so your time there is going to be limited. You can get zoigl in Weisse Schwan but the Oberpfalzer Hof hotel is closed on Wednesday! There is also the hotel in Neuhaus, but it's not the same as being in a real 'zoiglstube'. Wouldn't really recomend Weiden - Brauwirt (nice hell und dunkel) is a longish walk from the station one way, which meant we never made Gambrinus, which is longish walk the other way. Nice-ish town but nothing exceptional. We will be in Eschawo during this period but that alone probably doesn't justify the trip! |
