Bärlauch (bear's garlic) is a member of the garlic/leek/onion family and was introduced to the "haute cuisine" by the famous austrian chef Eckart Witzigmann, who claims that he came across it during a walk in the "English Garden" in Munich, where he was attracted by the intensive smell. It is very easy to plant it in Your own garden.... But it is also no problem to find it now in the woods in Franconia. I remember a bike-trip around Vierzehnheiligen, after a few beers at the brewery we headed for Uetzing and Stublang. The woods behind the brewery were sweet with an intensive smell of garlic..... |
