| When I said that people will neck liter after liter of whatever's brewed locally despite how bad it might be, I wasn't thinking of Beck's, Veltins, or other industrial lager, but rather of small, countryside, Franconian breweries I've encountered who pump out diacetyl- and/or DMS-laden, oversparged beer brewed by people who've apparently never drunk anything but their own beer. (And I'm not naming names.) Someone said on a forum at a website where people assign ratings to beers they drink that the average German has a deep-seated, proud ignorance of beer. I couldn't agree more. Present company are not average Germans...Franconians though! |
