| The VGN down here changed policy a couple of years ago (?), such that drivers *must* check tickets on boarding, and people are only supposed to board at the front. Exceptions are made for parents with prams, people with bikes or wheelchairs, etc., but they are then supposed to go show their tickets to the driver after boarding. (I assume this is VGN-wide, including Bamberg now.) Some months later, I read a report in the paper whereby the VGN said that "black riding" (Schwarzfahren, riding without a proper ticket) had dropped in Erlangen from 5% to 3% (!). Or something like that. Nice gain for the respective loss in time spent during boarding, I suppose. I've only seen plain-clothes on buses very very rarely, but then I'm also a very irregular rider. The missus says they used to board her commuting route maybe once a year. But then we're pretty honest down here in Mittelfranken! |
