Now we are getting complicated! My hydrometer measures the gravity but there is a little leaflet in the brew kit that tells you how to calculate alcohol content, as follows: (OG-FG) / 7.46 + 0.5 = approximate % alcohol by volume (ABV) So, for 'Great Expectations', OG was 1042, FG should be, say, 1006 = 36 = 7.46 = 4.83 + 0.5 = 5.33% That seems a bit different from your figures....
