| In terms of Czech breweries, we're not quite there. The unofficial list at pivovary.info has, by my count, 155, including 4 breweries that are not functioning (but could be again) and 6 breweries that are definitely about to open (this list tends to be late rather than optimistic). Strictly speaking, that's 145 -- and still 10 more than I had in my last count a few months ago. By way of comparison, there are, I think, 101 Czech breweries in my book (published May 2007). A few years earlier (after years of closures) we reached the bottom of the bucket, with something like just 70 breweries. It's only gone and still going quickly up from there. It's not hard to imagine that we'll have 200 breweries by 2014 or so, but for now, just 145 functioning breweries, and set for at least 151 by mid-2011. Give us three years? |
