| A local/regional joke has it that the world's shortest phrase for ordering beer comprises just two letters of the (German) alphabet: "a U." Frau Kellnerin saying "ein U" is just saying the same thing without the dialect; "ein" is plain ol' High German for the indefinite article, while "a" is the dialect form, and not limited to Bamberg/Franconia; you'll see/hear people in Munich and surrounding area ordering "a Mass" as well. |
