FeWo fever

I concur about using the individual towns' respective web sites. Bischberg, for instance, has a good local FeWo listing: http://www.bischberg.de/Touristik_u__Freizeit/Ubernachtung/ubernachtung.html It wasn't so many years ago that many FeWo owners still weren't leveraging the web much, requiring either letters, faxes, or phone calls. If the Bischberg site is any indication, increasing numbers of these owners are adopting the web and e-mail as means of contact. The only other hurdle is that quite a few of these folks have limited command of English, although they usually know someone (often in their own families) that can help out with that. So far, I've gotten to know the Schneiderbangers (who rent the two-bedroom place I've stayed in) and the Kolbs (who rent a couple of smaller but still comfortable units), and found them to be quite pleasant to do business with. Frau Kolb was a little concerned with the situation I set up, as I served as a middleman, booking a couple of friends with her; the friends had limited to no command of German, she had very little English, but the very very few problems encountered were easily resolved, and my friends loved it, their first-ever experience with the whole FeWo thing, even though they've owned vacation-condo time-shares in the past. Word to Barry: I probably won't be booking any of these places this year, so you might want to take advantage of the availability!
