Believe or not, it's (sadly) true! In my lifetime, I've seen three incarnations of said Griffin. The first was a lovely old boozer, with vault (bar), ladies snug and lounge - no food, crisps if you were lucky! Second version, totally modernised, still retained vault but a lot more upmarket, served 1970's type pub grub, cheap and cheerful. Still a reasonable boozer. Latest rebuild - large restaurant area, big screen TVs, but has still kept vault. Beer more expensive (£2 + a punt), caused my 80 year old uncle-in-law to move to a Hydes pub! Holts have quite a few of this type of pub now, particularly in the centre of Manchester.
