I think also that there is an ethos that these tables are for diners - apart from the stamtisch - and, generally, the pub makes more money from food than drink. That is definitely the case at Mahrs, where the management seems to have no compunction in alienating regular drinkers by reserving the inside room tables for corporate shindigs, which, presumably are quite profitable affairs. I guess business is business and, as long as die Schwemme (thanks Don) is warm enough, I don't mind sitting (or standing, though spouse has views on that) in there. To be honest, and this may just be the 'English' in me, I prefer to go to the ausschank and buy my beer when I want it, rather than wait on the convenience of the waitresses, particularly at dining times, when drinkers often get fairly short shrift. The guy at Mahrs ausschank is quite friendly when you get to know him! You never get this sort of thing in Eschawo!
