| Hi Barry, I got back yesterday. I made it out to Eichhorn in Dörfleins (Nick, I thought we discussed Eichhorn?), but didn't do the whole triangle. It was cold and rainy most days so didn't do as much walking as I hoped. I did do the 5 seidla. I took the bus out to Drosendorf and Göller, then walked over to Merkendorf (Hummel, Wagner), then on to Memmelsdorf(Höhn, Drei Kronen), then bus back. It was a pleasant 5 km walk. The only issue was that it was mid-week afternoon and the places were almost empty and I only had one beer at each, so hard to get a good feel for them. I'd like to go back to Merkendorf again when the keller is open. When I got back to the ZOB from Memmelsdorf it was around 18:00 and I saw a bus was about to leave for Dörfleins. I hopped on it thinking I could have a few beers at Eichhorn and that the last bus back would be around 20:00. When I got off the bus at Dörfleins I checked the schedule at the stop and realized that the bus I was on was the last bus and would have to cab it back to Bamberg. Eichhorn had a nice after-work crowd and I had a few Kellerbiers. I talked to the my waiter about missing the bus and having to take a cab, and he hooked me up with a woman sitting at the next table who was driving back that way and was about to leave. I paid for our beers(zusammen) and she kindly drove me back in a '76 VW bug. We had to stop once to wipe the snow off the windows since the wipers/defrost didn't work that well. Eichhorn was a friendly place and will go back. I also took the bus out to Zur Sonne in Bischberg for lunch one day. Again, not much going on that time of day and will have to try it for dinner next time. Didn't make it out to Geisfeld area like I hoped, but probably better to do that in warm weather anyway. Hopefully I'll be back next May. |
