Letzter Keller Tag, Sambach, Zentbechhofen, Brauhaus am Kreuzberg

A little birdie told me that Monday will be the last day of the season at Roppelt's, so those looking for a bargain on hoppy, fresh Kellerbier (1€ per Seidla, 2€ per Mass, even better "prices" for regulars) should mark their calendars. Might be a bit cool, but should be sunny. Hey, I don't have to work that day. Fischer in Zentbechhofen had their last day last week. Not sure about others. NOT closing for the season is the Brauhaus am Kreuzberg, where I accompanied a group of 30 from Nebraska last night. The beer's getting better and better, and his array of Schnäppse (plural for Schnapps) is outstanding, although there's no more Spargelgeist for the year. As we pulled out in the tour bus at 23:00 heading for Hirschaid, the brewster's father followed in his car and pulled us over in Schnaid to let the driver know that he wouldn't be able to get through the road construction on the way to Hirschaid, and to detour down through Hallerndorf and around. That was a class act. Say what some will about the place being too big, modern, and expensively built, Norbert & family run a classy, efficient show up there. I'm going back to thank them again, and try that Karpfen in (Weyermann) malt breading that's on the menü. Previous stops for the tourgroup were Hennemann in Sambach (outstanding food incl. Karpfen, also a Weizen vom Fass nowadays in addition to the Zwickl and Lager) which is also a class act, and a session at Friedel in Zentbechhofen (Bockbierfest 30. Oct) with their lovely Dunkel and bottled Märzen. Bill Baburek runs a pretty good tour.
