Kölsch prices in Cologne |

In the interest of accuracy, an 0,2l glass of Kölsch at Malzmühle's Brauhaus in Cologne, runs €1,55, rather less then "€2+" in any event. Päffgen charges €1,50 for it's 0,2l serving, so even less, and Päffgen's beer is quite good. It takes two and a half glasses of Kölsch to make an 0,5l Seidl, so multiply 1,55 times that two and a half, and you get the equivalent of around €3,88 for the equivalent half-liter serving. Sorry, Barry, not piling on, but I don't see Kölsch at those prices as particularly expensive, as those are pretty typical prices in most big cities. The price of a liter at Munich's Oktoberfest is running €8,80 (more or less) - that's €4,40 for a half-liter Seidl, for mass-production lager from one of Munich's "Big Six." So even as big-cities (not in Franconia) go, Cologne isn't that bad. It isn't the price paradise that you find in the Franconian and Oberpfalz countryside, but then, what is any more? (ObFriendlyJab: and it certainly beats what they're charging for a pint of boring ol' Guinness in Eire, no?) |
