Leuchtturm in Gunzenhausen

A couple of days ago, I saw a post on ratebeer about the Leuchtturm's reopening in July. (I'd never been before, nor did I know that it had closed.) So we went yesterday, after seeing what looks like an impressive food menu, and above all that the Braumeister's a Californian. (Wouldn't a nice California Pale Ale be nice, or even a Steam Beer!) As Jürgen says, the building is beautiful, and apparently 13 years old. The new owner rennovated the kitchen, but has apparently left the rest as is, which is fine. Of the three beers listed on the website, Blonde, Kupfer (copper), and Gold, only the Blonde was on, as well as a pale "Sommerlager". Both were drinkable, and above all not murky and unfinished-tasting as is common at modern German brewpubs like Barfüßer and Steinbach. Unfiltered, so not *crystal* clear, but still OK. The Gold will supposedly go on tap next week, and the Kupfer went off in favour of the Sommerlager. The food was the real star of the show though--absolutely excellent. Fresh and imaginative, though we ate things from the monthly specials, not the Franconian standards. Hopefully the brewer will get to be similarly more creative and innovative, above all brew more *Californian* style than the normal modern brewpub brewer around here does. Then again, he's a Bavarian-trained Braumeister...his beers yesterday were clearly better than some, but still, more imagination would be great. (New website: qqq.leuchthaus-gunzenhausen.de with www instead of qqq.)
