| We have a possibility of a visit in late Sept/early Oct, as Ryanair have some good value fares. Uusually come via Memmingen but best value for outward journey is via Altenburg. Have an idea about staying in Altenburg for a few days before moving down to Franken. Has anyone any experience of the town, also what about Weimar, Erfurt, Gotha, etc.? I realise that these are places worth visiting in their own right but do they have beer potential? In Steve Thomas' book, they hardly seem to rival any Franken village! After this part, I would propose to move down to Bamberg area, probably arriving end of September. Would the kellers still be open? Will the weather be reasonable? In order to visit some village brweries, is it better to stay in Bamberg, or is there a viable alternative? Is any of this going to tempt me away from W!!!! All opinion gratefully received! |
