Between Regensburg and N'berg

Sulzbach - Rosenberg: yes, nice little town, large parts of city wall still intact, 2 breweries, Sperber-Bräu is also a hotel and recommended. Neumarkt/Oberpfalz: also nice (a bit less), three breweries, one with a museum. Regensburg is bigger, very nice, several breweries, esp. Kneitinger and Spital are recommended. Schwandorf is not bad either, even if the brewery there stopped brewing last year; very good rail connections in four directions: Weiden, Cham, Regensburg, Amberg.
