If you look up the family of "Salmonidae," you'll see that the broad category includes the subfamily "Salmoninae," and that includes genus "Salvelinus" which includes certain trout and char species, including Saibling. Genus "Oncorhynchus" is more familiar to those of us who have regular access to Pacific Ocean salmon, trout, and steelhead. Genus "Salmo" includes Atlantic salmon and brown trout - note that Forelle is a species within this genus, and is very very closely related to brown trout (the same, perhaps?). All good eatin' for fish lovers. SWMBO remembers a very well-prepared platter of Forelle from a visit to Müller in Debring a few years back. |
