The words "private line" could be unclear. The operator is a private enterprise, but these lines are part of the so called "Öffentlicher Personennahverkehr" ("local public transport"). You can use these buses like buses from public operators (p.e. Stadtwerke Bamberg or the Omnibusverkehr Franken GmbH (OVF). All carriers in the Landkreis Bamberg (Bamberg country) http://www.landkreis-bamberg.de/index.phtml?La=1&sNavID=1633.2&mNavID=1633.2&object=tx|1633.2218.1&sub=0 The private carriers have a contract with the territory unit (p.e. Landkreis Bamberg). P.e. You could buy a ticket in a bus from the Stadtwerbe Bamberg for driving to a village of the Landkreis Bamberg (p.e. Trabelsdorf, price: 3 €) and then change the bus line, boarding in a bus of Metzner with the same ticket. It makes for You no difference if the carrier is private or public.
