Philosophical Question

Actually, A-B is an extraordinarily good brewery (or, more accurately, several breweries). A-B is unmatched for consistency, process control, or product quality. You and I may not have any love for A-B's bland mainstream flagship product, but that is their cash cow, and I have never, ever encountered an infected bottle, can, or keg of their products. A-B has also done small-batch specialty beers that have been, at the very least, interesting, and proof that they could make just about anything and make it well, if they really wanted to put in the effort. If you want an example of a large brewery gone bad, the former Schlitz Brewing Co. is the classic example: at one time, they challenged A-B for the top of the brewing heap in the USA, and then the bean counters took over and Schlitz went on the path of brewing self-destruction. At the opposite end of the scale, there are plenty of smaller breweries that don't do such a superb job either: infected batches, diacetyl-laden messes, beer underfermented and/or not aged long enough, and so on. The point is that there is much more as to whether a brewery is "good" or not than what our personal tastes dictate.
