| Whit is usually thought to derive from 'white', after the colour of the garments worn on those days. I have a deep interest in customs but most of my reference books are packed away, as we are undergoing house renovations at present. I haven't sampled Spotland Phoenix yet, due to my long absence from Manchester (must take a trip home soon) but it must be good to be compared with W! Re sparklers: an abomible practice but one that ius hard to avoid. Camra recomend that you ask the bar staff to remove them - just try to do that in a busy pub in Manchester on a Friday or Saturday! Gearing up now for Eschow: the Pfingfeste is on while I'm in town, celebrated in some of the Zoigl houses - should be interesting. |
