More importantly, 'steaming' is a common term used in Ireland (probably also in England, Scotland and Wales) for a person who has consumed rather too much (or too little, depending on your point of view) alcohol. In Ireland, there is also 'stocious', 'flaming' 'palatic' (from paralytic) and, of course, 'pi--ed' (somtimes, as in the UK, with 'as a newt' added). Also 'to drown the Shamrock' was said to be used but I've never heard that one. If anyone's really interested, I could probably drag up a few more! |
