Weyerman's Smoked Malt |

I'm not aware of any other beechwood smoked malt for homebrewing other than what is available from Weyerman's. There is a Cherrywood smoked malt available from Briess that I have used and I like it a lot and it is smokier than the Weyerman's but it's a much different flavor. As far as judges telling you "not enough smoke for the style". Give me a break! As anyone who has tried various Franconian Rauchbiers knows the level of smokiness varies. But that's the BJCP for you I guess. Yeah you might have to smoke your own to reach the level of smokiness of a Schlenkerla. |
