Danny, but like I said above, I know the two breweries already, although I've only been to each of them twice. To each his own, of course, and this must be the reason why so many rave about the Aichinger Exportlager. It's rather too sweet for me. "The Franconian likes his beer smooth" is often said, and so it's interesting why with barely an exception so many of the driest beers in Germany are brewed in Franken. I've drunk enough with Uncle Jimbo to be able to form an idea of his taste in beer, and I suspect he'll find the two breweries like I do: Br. Ott makes beers that are simply more interesting than the Aichinger is. So it'd be disappointing to rush away from Ott (less than two hours wouldn't be enough for us to try out so many beers) only to console ourselves with the sweet, rather simple Aichinger. But who knows? Maybe the Aichinger will be better, then an extra hour between buses in Heiligenstadt could come in handy! I'd only call a taxi in an emergency; 20 € between us could be better spent than an hour tramping around when it's pissing down out. I agree partly with the review you posted above, he finds the beer sweet like I do, and also a bit flat, but I've found that vom Faß at the brewery, so it's not an effect of shipping. But man, does he write a bit too flowery! ;) So, will you meet us on Tuesday? I'll buy you an Aichinger, but not 6! |
