Biking in the countryside

It's very rare that a car will pass me with less than the prescribed clearance. Your German friend sounds like he's heard me go on and on about the diference between biking in the US and in Germany before. It matches my view 100%. One of my neighbours grew up in the US and is an avid cyclist. He says cars would regularly run him off the road and through soda cans and other things at him as they passed him.
