| Can't speak about Augsburg or Passau but spent a week in Regensburg in June. Was a bit disappointed with the city, which is quite large and, in my view, greatly over restored - even the Altstadt. Also very crowded. It certainly lacks the atmosphere of Bamberg, but so does everywhere! My host told me that R. contains more pubs and bars per head of population than anywhere in Germany. I find that hard to believe but there are enough to satisfy for a few days. All of the Kneitinger pubs seem pretty good and serve excellent beer, while the Spital brewery biergarten is an experience not to be missed - also excellent beer! Finally, I would recomend a visit to the Bischofshof brewery tap - a very nice biergarten and, when we there, an excellent unfiltered Zoigl beer. Not real Zoigl, but one of the few unfiltered beers available. By the way, why not go to Windischeschenbach? A must 'before you die' pilgrimage for any beer lover! |
