The good news is that if you like beers that are malty, Marzens and Rauchbiers as opposed to pale hoppy beers then you're in luck. Those types of lagers are plentiful in Franconia and many places your visiting will be right up your alley. Day 2: My only comment is that if you're going to be in the neighborhood of Hallerndorf to visit Rittmayer then you might want to consider going to the Kreuzberg Kellers. This way you can taste the wares of three breweries (four if you also visit Roppelt's Keller at the same time) all at once. Friedel, Rittmayer of course, and Lieberth. Not to mention the Kreuzberg Kellers is just a beautiful spot to spend time. I'm sure you'd especially enjoy the beers from Friedel and Rittmayer. Day 3: I'm only familiar with Rossdorf am Forst (Brauerei Sauer), Pottenstein (Brauerei Hufeisen), and Huppendorf (Brauerei Grasser). But all three are great. Especially the Braunbier at Sauer which is amazing malty goodness in a glass. Pottenstein also has Brauerei Mager in addition to Hufheisen (both nice malty dunkles) and a castle. Day 4: I can only speak for Hartmann in Wurgau. I was just there for the 2nd time a few weeks ago and the beers were delicous. Both the Erbschank (malty and very flavorful dark beer) and the Felsentrunk (nice mild Rauchbier). Also a great place for dinner if you interested in trying some local wild game dishes. If you do go to Wurgau you might as well visit Schesslitz (just 3-4 km down the road I think) and visit both Brauerei Drei Kronen and Barth Senger - both on the same street and close to each other. Both have beers I think you would like a lot based on your professed style preference. That's about all the chiming in I can do. Have fun! Mark |
