| According to the municipal website - http://www.ebermannstadt.de/home/unserestadt/stadtrundgang/kommunbrauhaus.html - Brauerei Sonne used to be the communal brewhouse, used by 18 brewers. They instigated the Beer War of 1510 against Pretzfeld to protect the brewing rights granted to them by Kaiser Maximilian I, and the subsequent legal action apparently took centuries to resolve. Maximilian, BTW, borrowed massive amounts from the merchants of Amsterdam and in gratitude allowed the city to use his imperial crown in its coat of arms - hence the name of the Maximiliaan microbrewery (now defunct) in Amsterdam. |
