Proposal for a wednesday trip to Kulmbach (and possibly Trebgast): - train to Kulmbach; - walk to brewery museum (there is a new addition, the bakery museum, also interesting; you can choose to visit both or just one); - go see the museum brewery working (wednesday is brewing day), then do the museum tour, ending up at the brewery again; - then you can do the bakery museum (takes less time, is smaller) and you end up at the brewery yet again; - you get a glass of museum beer with your tour (and freshly baked bread if you chose to do both parts); - go to the Kommunbräu for a midday meal, they are often brewing on wednesday also. If you want to do it at a more leisurely pace, go have lunch in between the two museum visits; if you ask, it will be no problem to do the visit in two parts. Added advantage, you will be able to see more of the brewing process. The brewer is very welcoming and will explain everything he does; last time I got to taste the wort for instance. I managed to visit Trebgast the same day a few months ago, and had a glass of Zwickel at the brewery (very good). If you want to see more of Kulmbach, I suggest you leave out the Trebgast part, that will give you time to visit the Bierzelt for the Bierwoche. BTW, the three Festbiere at the tent are from the same brewery but to three different recipes, so there probably will be differences, but small ones. Beer nr. 4 is Weizen. Oh, and of course all 4 beers are Heineken beers ;-) Walking time from railway station to museum 15-20 min., museum - Kommunbräu 5 min., in fact all is within easy walking distance. There may be no brewing at the museum when the brewer is on holiday. Phone ahead to make sure.
