Ach, so! Their "dunkles" is probably St. G's "Landbier Dunkel". Which I incidentally had last night in the bottle at the wonderful Gasthaus Egloffsteiner Hof in Altendorf, a few hundred meters from Buttenheim Bahnhof. Here's a cut-n-paste of what I wrote elsewhere about yesterday's visit there, where we ate after a nice rainy afternoon at Witzgall's Keller (not much beer related): Pike/perch/walleye (Zander) for her, http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j175/erlangernick/egloffsteinerhof/51.jpg, caught-by-the-chef-pike dumplings with crawfish for me, http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j175/erlangernick/egloffsteinerhof/50.jpg, both with boiled taters, broccoli, and a lovely white wine sauce. Simply awesome, with little salads & two beers, all for about $24 (Clintondollars) including a good tip. Unbelievably good and cheap, in the courtyard (Hof) at this little place in a village with one of the train stations where we often hop on after a bike tour. The oldest house in the village, known as a guest house since at least 1510, the Egloffsteiner Hof. http://egloffsteiner-hof.de/index.php?page=kontakt http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j175/erlangernick/egloffsteinerhof/52.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j175/erlangernick/egloffsteinerhof/53.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j175/erlangernick/egloffsteinerhof/54.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j175/erlangernick/egloffsteinerhof/55.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j175/erlangernick/egloffsteinerhof/56.jpg I WANT their sign. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j175/erlangernick/egloffsteinerhof/57.jpg Sadly not the most exciting beers (St. Georgenbräu brewery) around, but damn if it isn't awesome eatin'. Oh, yes, we WILL be back. |
