I personally would recommend Griess over Krug in Geisfeld, if one had to choose, because the Griess Kellerbier is simply not to be missed. The Krug dunkles Lager is nice, but nothing as special as the Griess Kellerbier--pale, hoppy, and bitter. This assumes the Kellerbier's on at the Gaststätte which I believe it normally is... Otherwise, the places you've chosen are so close to each other, that it strikes me that you'll spend more time getting in and out of the bus than actually riding around in it. How about driving a bit farther afield specifically into "Franconian Switzerland"? Looking at my map, maybe Merkendorf - Steinfeld - Sachsendorf (or Aufseß) - Geisfeld? These places are at least on a par beer-wise as 3., 4., and 5.2 on your list, IMO, and the scenery, both at the places and along the way, is very nice. (Pity that Krug in Breitenlesau and Ott in Oberleinleiter are closed Mondays.) Either way, email me at erlangernick at yanoo point de if you'd like me to send you my interactive brewery map linking the locations with their listings at a certain website guide to beer in Franconia. Could help with planning this and/or future trips. |
