Excellent, thanks! It's on my list of places I want to visit, but haven't gotten around to doing yet. I've had the pale Doppelbock at Abseits; it was very impressive. AFA Todd's request--Todd, you've been to villages around Bamberg already IIRC, so I assume you're looking for advice on places a bit farther afield. I enjoyed Kulmbach, though I didn't do anything but walk up from Zentrum to the Burg and back, exploring the town a bit. A pretty place, an impressive enough castle to tour (though the tourguide when I was there repeats the old mistaken story of how the US constitution was ALMOST written in German...soldiers from the area were sent to fight in the US Revolutionary War, FWIW), though I didn't visit the brewing museum or drink any beer there.
