| I was ignorant of the whole thing--leaving your key at reception--until we stayed at some small German hotel somewhere before we moved here. As we were leaving the hotel, walking past reception, they asked if we would leave the key with them so that we wouldn't have to worry about losing it. Ever since then, I've noticed that some larger hotels even have a box at the reception counter to drop your key in when you go out, which I assume is for when no one is at reception at the moment. I assume it's simply a cultural thing: the way things were always done. (Probably in the good old days in the US too.) |
