What have I missed? |

Jan-Erik, I have nothing against what must be great beer in bamburg, but I am partial to the beers in Hof an der Saale in Oberfranken. The Boerger-Braeu you mention is actually Buerger-Braeu and I believe the brewery closed a few years ago. I enjoyed it. Meinel-Braeu is still around and not bad. Zelt-Braeu is not my favorite, but it produces a special beer for the Schlappentag holiday. Drink a couple liters of that and you will know you've had some strong beer. Personally, I usually drink Scherdel-Braeu. I think it is now the largest local brewery in Hof. In the 60's Hof(pop. 50,000) had 9 breweries. That grew to 10 sometime in the 70's or 80's when the town of Unterkatzau was incorporated into Hof. That brought Falter-Braeu which is not bad. Most of the smaller breweries are gone. That is sad. |
