Just been in Bamberg.... |

| Visited last weekend with 3 friends who were new to Bamberg. At least two of them are already planning to go back! Saturday we started at Keesmann, with a superb bock, then on to our place to stay (a very luxurious Ferienwohnung), later on had dinner at Klosterbräu, were we liked the Schwärzla best, and finished rather early at Fässla, where the Bambergator was back on quality as I remembered it from 2005 (last year was not so good). Sunday morning was for a city walk, then lunch at Spezial. No bock yet, Anstich is later this week, but the Lager, Mãrzen and U were all good, and even the Weizen was quite good (Imo wheat and smoke do not mix very well, but in this case it did, at least up to a point). After that we went to Mahr's, were we had Helles (diacetyl!), U (not as good as the Spezial U), Bock (that we liked a lot), and Weizen and Sternen Hell from the bottle. That second Helles was very good! Our evening meal we had at Maisel, with a Weizen from the vat, Kellerbier and another good Bock. We finished off the evening at Schlenkerla with the standard Märzen, the Urbock and the Weizen. Interesting, but not really great. We skipped Ambr. and Kaiserdom, Greifenklau was closed (Betriebsferien). All in all we tasted 24 beers from 7 breweries. We went back to the Netherlands with a nice selection of beers and also quite a few bottles of wine. |
