Well, if I state that I think the hollanders are the prussians of the Netherlands, does that explain things? Hollanders are the noisy sort of dutchmen (the sort of nitwit yuppies mainly from Amsterdam) you would come across in the weekends in Antwerp or Gent, and that's why most Antwerpers and Gentonians don't like 'Ollanders. And I don't like 'Ollanders too, and even more, I definitely don't like to be called a Hollander. I'm not from the part of the Netherlands that is Holland (the two provinces North & South Holland), I'm from Gelderland (eastern province in the Netherlands). Also compare the distinction between England vs the United Kingdom (don't call someone from Wales or Scotland an Englishman...). Or Bavaria vs Germany. Or Franconia vs Bavaria...? Does a Canadian like to be called a Newfoundlander? Jos |
