'twas a discussion here recently, or maybe over at that Burgundianboard, about how these various fests really are not actually *beer* fests: They're actually just annual fests that happen to have beer(s) available. "Kerwa" is fränkisch for "Kirchweih", which is the name of a Volksfest ("peoples' fest") in a given place which originally dates back to celebrating the local church's concecration ("die Einweihung der Kirche"). Ah, but that's not all--it goes back to heathen ("heidnisch") times: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirchweih . Offered merely as a point of nitpickery. (And not at all intended to distract from the original point(s) about how fantastic the Sandkerwa is!) |
